Entry Fields

In the Person's Age field, enter the age, in years, of the person for whom you are calculating,

Optionally, in the Person's Name field, enter the name of the person. If you leave this field empty, it is assumed you are calculating for yourself.

Dog Size needs to be entered, since dogs age differently depending on their size: small, medium, large, or extra large. Dog size is based on dog's weight, and each size is shown in both pounds and kilograms.

If you do not know exact weight of the dog breed you'd like to age yourself as, select what you think is the best match.

As examples, Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers and Pomeranians are all small dogs. A Cocker Spaniel and Basset Hound are medium sized dogs. A Labrador Retriever and Boxers are large dogs, and Rottweilers and Great Danes are very large dogs.

About Human to Dog Age Conversion

Many websites, including ours, have a Dog Age Calculator to age your dog in human years. Ours is different in that it converts dog age to human years using 3 different algorithms, including the times 7 rule that many of us grew up with but which is now known to be least accurate.

This calculator is the first ever to go the other direction, converting human age to a dog's age. We arrived at this idea after much discussion with our canine friends, who indicated they were not particularly interested in their age as people, but wanted to know how old we, their people family and friends, would be if we were dogs. We wholeheartedly agreed, and here we are. Thanks to the dogs who inspired this calculator.

When you convert your people age to dog age, you'll see immediately that you become significantly younger, mirroring, of course, a dog's life. You'll also notice that dog size plays an integral role in converting human age to canine age.

Smaller dogs, such as Shih Tzu and Pugs, in general, live much longer than very large dogs (sometimes called Giants), like Mastiffs and Newfoundlands. Consequently, if you age yourself as a small dog and then as a large or very large dog, you'll notice a difference in your dog age even though your human age did not change.

As this calculator shows, if people aged like dogs, our entire lives would be condensed into about a decade, plus or minus a few years depending on our dog size. By size, the first year of a dog's life is equal to 15 people years (12 for very large dogs). In other words, we'd almost be adults after 1 physical dog year, thereby completely skipping elementary and middle school. Pawsome!
