Entry Fields
In the Date of Birth fields, enter your birth date, or of the person for whom you are calculating.
If you prefer to enter Years Old instead of Date of Birth, use this field. If both are provided, Years Old takes priority, and birth date is not used. At this time, Years Old should be a whole number (e.g. 30 Years old, not 30.2 or 30.5).
In the Person's Name , enter the name of person whose Martian age you are calculating. If calculating how old you would be on Mars, you can leave this field empty.
About Age on Mars Calculator
This calculator translates anyone's current Earth age to their age on the planet Mars, showing whether one is older or younger on Mars. In addition, if birth date is provided, a birthday chart compares milestone ages (e.g. 1, 18, 21, 25, 40) on Earth and Mars.
Below you'll find some interesting info about the planet Mars, including if one ages faster or slower on Mars, and how long a day lasts, as compared to here on Earth.
What is Mars's Position From Sun?
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun. It is surrounded by two planets: Earth, third planet from the Sun, and Jupiter, the largest planet in our Solar System.
Depending on where Mars and Earth are in their orbits around the Sun, Mars can be from 35 million miles (56 million kilometers) to 250 million miles (400 million kilometers) from Earth.
The average distance from Mars to Jupiter is 342 million miles (half a billion kilometers).
*Note: Our Solar System had 9 planets until 2006. At that time, Pluto, furthest from the Sun, was re-classified as a dwarf planet.
What is Temperature on Mars?
Mars is a cold planet, given it is further from the Sun, plus it has a thin atmosphere that does not retain the solar energy that reaches it.
The temperature range on Mars ranges from a low of about -125 Fahrenheit (-87 Celsius) to a high of 23 Fahrenheit (-5 Celsius), the latter similar to a cold Winter's day on Earth.
What is Mars's Circumference and Diameter?
A planet's circumference is the distance all the way around its equator. Mars's circumference is about 13,048 miles (21,000 kilometers).
The diameter of a planet is the distance from one side across to the other, measured from the planet's center. Mars's diameter is about 4,212 miles (6,779 kilometers).
Mars is about half the size of Earth in terms of diameter and circumference.
When was Mars discovered?
Mars is one of 5 planets that can be viewed without the aid of a telescope, and was observed in ancient times dating back thousands of years.
Mars is often called the Red Planet since its surface is covered with iron-oxide (i.e. rust) which is a red-orange color that can be seen from Earth. It is said that Mars was named by the Romans, after Mars, their mythological god of war.
How long is a year on Mars?
A year on Mars is approximately 686 days, which is the length of time it takes for Mars to orbit the Sun (1 full revolution).
In the 1 year (365.25 days*) it takes Earth to orbit the Sun, slowpoke Mars is only about half way around the Sun! But, to be fair, Mars has further to travel as it is 48 million miles (77 million kilometers) further out from the Sun than the Earth.
FYI - Mars, and all other planets in our Solar System, revolve around the Sun in a counter-clockwise motion.
*An Earth year is often shown as 365.25 days, to account for leap years which have 366 days.
How long is a day on Mars?
Mars' day length is extremely similar to Earth's! Earth makes a full rotation in 1 day, whereas over on Mars a daily spin takes 1.03 days, or about 45 minutes more!
A day is the amount of time for a planet to make a full rotation on its axis.
Would I Age Faster or Slower on Mars?
You would age more slowly on Mars - approximately 2 times slower (1.88 to be more exact). For example, when you are 30 on Earth, you'd be 16 on Mars; 80 on Earth and you'd be 42.6 on Mars.
However, since a day on Mars is so similar to Earth's, your day age would be about the same! For example, at age 30, your Earthling day age is 10,958 days old, which would be 10,638 Martian days.
Does Mars Have Moons? Rings?
Yes, Mars has 2 moons, Phobos and Deimos, named after Roman mythical horses which pulled Mars' chariot into battle.
Mars has no planetary rings.
Does Mars Have Seasons?
Yes, Mars has 4 seasons, just like on Earth, due to its axial tilt of 25.2 degrees; Earth tilts at 23.5 degrees.
Since a year on Mars is roughly double an Earth's year, each Martian season lasts twice as long as Earth's.
How far is Mars From the Sun?
Mars has an average distance of 142 million miles (228 million kilometers) from the Sun, which is 1.5 astronomical units (AU).
An astronomical unit (AU) is defined as the distance between the Sun and planet Earth, which is 93 million miles (149 million kilometers).
Has Mars Been Visited?
Yes, Mars has had dozens of visits, from orbiters and landers, to flybys. The first attempts were in the early 1960s by the USA and USSR; the first success was Nasa's Mariner 4 (USA) which made a flyby in July 1965.
The first landers were Nasa's Viking 1 and Viking 2 (USA), both with orbiters; Launched in 1975, the landers were on Mars until 1980 (Viking 1) and 1982 (Viking 2), at which point they ceased communication. They returned thousands of images and mapped most of Mars.
